A question put to one of the panelists, Dr. Manoj Nakra, COO, Mohammed Bin Rashid Est. For SME Development, has sparked some debate. As it stands there is confusion as to whether the MBRE provides funding to non-Emirati businesses. Dr. Nakra has assured the audience that the selection process for funding is objective and for “all residents” of the UAE.

Dr. Nakra has also pointed out that when it comes to judging whether an applicant fulfils the criteria for funding from the MBRE, the process is not one that is similar to what a bank looks for- the conditions for judging entrepreneurs have to be different to traditional funding criteria.

“Entrepreneurship is a challenging three year journey in which to convert and idea to a business” said Dr. Nakra
