What Surprises Await at ‘Super AI Tuesday’ at GITEX?

The world's largest tech event features 6,500 exhibitors, showcasing groundbreaking AI technologies, flying cars, and international collaboration, highlighting the UAE's commitment to innovation and economic growth.

GITEX GLOBAL 2024 kicked off in an impressive way this Monday at the Dubai World Trade Centre. It's the world's largest and best-rated tech event, and this year’s edition is bigger than ever, marking its 44th year with a record-breaking lineup. Over 6,500 exhibitors, 1,800 startups, and 1,200 investors are here, along with government representatives from more than 180 countries. This high level of international participation makes it a truly global event.

On the first day, the exhibition floors were packed with people checking out incredible innovations. G42, the UAE technology giant, presented their Intelligence Grid experience, showing how AI could transform every aspect of life. Lenovo was also there, showcasing their new AI-powered hardware and cloud solutions. One of the showstoppers was XPeng's AeroHT Flying Car, which got people buzzing about the future of aviation and personal transportation.

The first theme of the week was “Tech Investment Day.” A highlight was the World Future Economy Digital Leaders Summit, where huge crowds gathered. H.E. Abdullah Bin Touq Al Marri, UAE’s Minister of Economy, gave a keynote, talking about how the UAE is pushing forward with AI and emerging industries, emphasising how innovation is driving their economy. With the non-oil sector now contributing 74 percent of the UAE's GDP in 2024, the target is to hit 80 percent by 2030.

The event also featured leadership insights from H.E. Faisal Al Bannai, who discussed the societal impact of AI and how the UAE is positioning itself as a leader in this space. They launched new initiatives, like GITEX Editions, a platform for advanced tech companies and unicorns. Plus, H.E. Omar Sultan Al Olama, the Minister of State for AI, gave a talk on the UAE’s pragmatic approach to AI regulation.

AI's role in law enforcement and tackling cybercrime was also a big topic. Didier Jacobs from Europol stressed how collaboration between countries and deploying AI technologies is key to tackling cybercrime, which doesn't respect borders.

Europe had a strong presence this year, too, with more European countries exhibiting than ever before. The European Innovation Council pavilion made its debut, with exhibitors from countries like Austria, Portugal, and Switzerland.

As for what’s next, “Super AI Tuesday” will take over, focusing on how AI is transforming businesses and industries worldwide. And GITEX GLOBAL 2024 runs all week, connecting tech leaders from all corners of the world, from Europe to Africa and Asia, driving innovation and collaboration across the tech ecosystem.
