Will AI-Powered Sprints Transform MENA Startups?

Meta and Startupbootcamp’s Llama Design Drive aims to empower MENA startups through AI-driven workshops, mentorship, and potential global recognition.

Hey, have you heard about the new partnership between Meta and Startupbootcamp? They’re teaming up to really make waves in the MENA startup scene with a new program called Llama Design Drive.

So, here's the deal: Meta and Startupbootcamp want to give local startups in the MENA region a huge boost by using cutting-edge AI technology. They’re rolling out a series of three four-week sprints across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt. During these sprints, startups will get to participate in intensive workshops and receive mentorship to help them grow.

What’s really cool is that they’ve partnered with some big names like RTA, Chalhoub Group, and Dubai Holding. These partnerships are going to help define the design challenges for the startups and provide guidance on creating AI-driven solutions. The goal is to bridge the gap between established companies and AI startups, encouraging local innovation.

Startups in the program will get to work with Meta’s open-source AI model, Llama 3.1. They’ll use this tech to tackle real-world issues in areas like mobility, aviation, energy distribution, retail, and real estate. It’s a win-win: startups get hands-on experience and the chance to collaborate on solving major problems, while companies get to explore new AI solutions to their pressing challenges.

There’s even a global opportunity for startups that stand out. They could get fast-tracked into a global program sponsored by Meta and have a shot at receiving up to US$500,000 to further develop their products.

Ibrahim Seksek, CEO MENA at Startupbootcamp, said the program is all about promoting AI adoption and connecting startups with corporates and experts to expand their networks and skills. And Joulan Abdul Khalek from Meta mentioned how this initiative is a great example of how open-source collaboration can lead to meaningful AI solutions.

It’s an exciting time for the MENA region, which is really positioned to benefit from AI. By 2030, the Middle East is expected to capture 2 percent of the global benefits of AI, with significant annual growth in AI’s contribution to the region’s GDP.
