From Awareness to Action: Dubai Municipality's Expanded Guide Equips Businesses for Plastic-Free Futures
To support environmental sustainability and mitigate plastic waste, Dubai Municipality has unveiled additional guidance for businesses pertaining to the single-use plastics ban, which was instituted in January following a resolution by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai’s Executive Council.
The resolution, aimed at favouring a culture of recycling and altering consumer habits, underscores Dubai's commitment to environmental preservation and sustainability. DM's awareness guide, initially launched under the #DubaiMoreSustainable campaign during COP28, has been expanded to offer more comprehensive information and FAQs, aiding individuals, public sector entities, private businesses, corporations, and institutions in adhering to the new regulations.
Aligned with Dubai Municipality’s endeavours to enhance quality of life and sustainability, the initiative promotes everyday sustainable practices at work and home. By enforcing the ban, Dubai not only endeavours to safeguard the environment but also advocates for the development of a circular economy, sustainable development, and the conservation of natural resources for future generations.
Eng. Mohammed Alrayees, Head of Waste Strategy and Projects Department at Dubai Municipality, expressed the municipality’s commitment to transitioning Dubai into a leading sustainable global city. He emphasised the importance of the guide in addressing queries regarding single-use plastics and advocating for green alternatives, thereby encouraging the adoption of sustainable practices by individuals, businesses, and institutions.
The guide, crafted by DM, addresses important questions consumers and businesses may have regarding the ban. Moreover, it elucidates on green alternatives to plastics and provides practical tips on how to embrace sustainability in daily practices.
Dubai Municipality’s latest initiative states the emirate's approach towards environmental stewardship and sets a precedent for sustainable urban development on a global scale.
