Meet the first Indian private firm to launch a satellite
Space exploration and travel have always been a fascination of mankind. From the space race to reach the moon, to modern-day tech billionaires such as Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos launching their own private space companies. The US-based space agency SpaceX, led by Musk, recently launched 64 satellites into orbit, one of which was in collaboration with Exseed Space, a Mumbai-based startup. The launch made Exseed Space the first private Indian entity to have a satellite in space.
On Monday, 3rd December 2018, the Exseed Sat-1, a communication satellite, was launched just past midnight, after 10 days of delay due to technical and weather difficulties. The satellite weighs just 1 kilogram and is slightly larger than 2 Rubik’s cubes combined, and looks to serve the amateur radio community. Kris Nair, CEO of Exseed Space, tweeted: “[…] the team has now demonstrated that it is possible to build [a] reliable commercial-grade spacecraft in a matter of months without spending a lot of money.”
