Could space engineering prevent the end of Earth?
We love how the tech community thinks billions of years ahead. It is estimated that in about five billion years, the Sun that is the sole light provider to our planet will begin to die. As it does so, it will rapidly expand and incinerate the Earth, rendering all global warming attempts as futile.
One solution is to move humanity to another planet or an entirely different solar system. Given Elon Musk and the UAE have plans to put people on Mars, in a few billion years we could easily reach another galaxy.
While that is the best bet for humanity, according to an essay by Glasgow space engineer Matteo Ceriotti in The Conversation; another solution is to push the Earth’s orbit to a distance where the explosion wouldn’t reach it. Although this solution is quite impractical, it is always nice to know what possibilities and choices we have to sustain life.
